Copyright Policy

What students and families may upload to MK Performing Arts, what we do with it, and how a rights owner can report material they believe infringes their rights.
What This Covers
Michael Karl Studio, LLC d/b/a MK Performing Arts respects the rights of writers, composers, publishers, and performers. This policy explains what students and families may upload to the MK Performing Arts platform, and how someone who believes their work has been used without permission can tell us.
Your Material Stays Yours
A recording, video, document, or piece of writing a student uploads remains theirs. Uploading it gives MK Performing Arts permission to store, display, and process it only as far as needed to provide the service — so a coach can watch it, mark it up, and give feedback, and so the student and their parent or guardian can see it.
We do not use student uploads in advertising or public marketing. Using a student's image, voice, or performance publicly is a separate, optional permission that we ask for on its own.
What You May Upload
- Your own recordings and performances, including audition tapes, self-tapes, and practice takes.
- Material you own, or that you have permission or a licence to use.
- A copy of sheet music, a script, or sides you have lawfully obtained, where you are uploading it so your coach can work on it with you.
What You May Not Upload
- Material you copied from a source you had no right to copy from, including scanned or downloaded sheet music and scripts obtained without permission.
- Recordings of other people made without their knowledge or agreement.
- Anything you have been told, by a rights holder or a licensor, that you may not share.
- Material that is unlawful, or that you would not be entitled to hand to a teacher in person.
A Note About Teaching and Performing
The copyright exemption people often have in mind for classroom teaching applies to non-profit educational institutions. MK Performing Arts is a limited company, so we do not rely on it. We work from properly licensed material, and we ask families to do the same.
Permission to perform a piece live is not the same as permission to record it, stream it, or post it. Where a showcase or camp performance will be filmed or streamed, we deal with those rights separately.
Reporting Material That Infringes Your Rights
If you own the rights to a work and believe it has been used on our platform without permission, tell us and we will act promptly.
Send your notice to hello@mkperformingarts.com with the subject line "Copyright notice", or by post to Copyright Notices, Michael Karl Studio, LLC d/b/a MK Performing Arts, 1640 Roswell Street Southeast, Suite G, Smyrna, GA 30080.
- Identify the work you say has been infringed.
- Identify the material on our platform you are asking us to remove, with enough detail for us to find it.
- Give us your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
- State that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the rights owner, its agent, or the law.
- State that the information in your notice is accurate, and that you are the rights owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf. Notices are made under penalty of perjury.
- Sign the notice — a physical or electronic signature is fine.
What Happens Next
We will review the notice, remove or disable access to the material where the notice is valid, and tell the person who uploaded it what has happened and why.
If you uploaded material that was removed and you believe that was a mistake — for example because you hold a licence — write to us at the same address with your explanation and we will look at it again.
An account used repeatedly to upload material that infringes other people's rights will lose the ability to upload, and may be closed.
